To Crete by plane
There are many direct flights to Heraklion from most of the major European cities from early April until to the end of October. Flying time around 3 - 4 hours. You can get to Creta Suites from two airports on Crete - Heraclion (110 km) and Sitia (60 km). There are regular flights to Heraclion from all larger European cities and you can also fly from many Greek cities and islands.
From Heraclion to Koutsounari and Creta Suites
1) Major rent a car companies and local car rentals. The easiest is to contact Creta Suites and let them arrange for a rental car waiting for you at the airport or the port. Count on about €180 - €280/week, tax, insurance and free mileage included. It takes about 1.30 hours of some beautiful scenery along the coastline of Crete to go by car to Creta Suites.
Directions: Head for Agios Nikolaos. Don't go through Agios Nikolaos, but turn right just before, following the sign to Ierapetra. At the first traffic lights before Ierapetra, turn left towards Sitia. After 8 km you reach Koutsounari. There you follow the signs to the resort. We recommend a rental car, since there are so many interesting attractions to visit nearby.
2) Taxi Book a taxi through Creta Suites to be waiting for you at the airport or the port in Heraclion.

3) Bus - we don’t recommend that. First you have to take a taxi to the bus station. Take a bus to Agios Nikolaos where you change to one going to Ierapetra. There you change again to another bus, heading for Koutsounari.
EXCURSIONS:
Between May and October, there are organized tours like the visit to Vai - the only natural Palm forest in Europe – to Chrissie Island to Samaria and Knossos. Prices vary from €30 - €100 per trip. There are village fiestas and music and dance festivals throughout the season. May - October, there are arranged excursions to two islands with the most incredible beaches with clear waters with colors reminiscent of the Caribbean, but located in this part of the world.
SHOPPING:
Handicrafts, local produce, herbs, cheeses, honey and local spirits are all available in the town's shops. Leather goods, lace, woven fabrics and shoes are also popular shopping items. Gold and silver jewelry are plentiful for that special purchase. Ierapetra, Agios Nikolaos and Sitia are additional nearby towns for an extra dose of Cretan "retail therapy".
SEASON & WEATHER:
The main tourist season is from March - November. June - September is high season. April - May is a wonderful time to holiday in Crete. Then it is blooming season, green, flowering and beautiful. October and November is also a good period. It is still warm but offers a more peaceful holiday.
